    Poultices were used for: -
    1. Swellings. In this case the poultice consists of linseed meal boiled with water and applied on a cloth. The length of time it would be left on, depended on the complaint.
    2. The bronchitis it would be put on the chest and kept warm.
    3. A poultice of loaf and water would be applied to a boil to draw it. A plaster of wax used also be used to cure a person of a boil.
    To cure a headache or toothache some people in this district used to go to an old woman in Cloomnahara named Máire Seóujeac (Mary Joyce) about fifty years ago. She used to tie a string round their heads and spend half-an-hour saying some kind of prayer over them. Nine days afterwards they used to go to her again and the same rites were performed. The same thing used to happen the following nineth day and after that the patient would suffer no more from headaches or toothaches. A pipeful of tobacco repaid
