- Before the famine times the district of
Ballincurry and Cloonfaughna was very thickly populated, and when the famine came they died by the fences day by day.
So many people died each day that coffins could not be provided and as the people who were alive were too weak to dig graves, the dead people were rolled in heavy clothes and thrown into ditches.
2. There was a big farm in Clooncagh and when the people used to be real hungry they used to gather at night and steal turnips out off the farm.- Bailitheoir
