  1. Shops were not as common in this district long ago as they are now. The nearest shop in this district long ago was three miles from the people, and now there is shops in all parts of it. There is a very big shop in my own village, and it, owned by a man named Thomas Barry. The old people of my district say that how the people used to buy flour was to buy a mug at a time and the prise of it was three-pence. An old woman used come to Glenamaddy and she used to leave the bag of flour out in a chair in the middle of the street and she also had a mug to measure it.
